Youth downhill skiing · Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Positive Altitudes gives kids from underrepresented Milwaukee communities the freedom, confidence, and pure fun of downhill skiing — equipment, gear, lessons, and dinner all covered.

Our mission
Organized and operating as a 501(c)(3), Positive Altitudes was established in 2021 to increase the participation of kids from underrepresented communities in the sport of downhill skiing.
Across our 2022–2026 seasons, we partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee, Big Brothers Big Sisters, COA Youth & Family Center, and Sunburst Ski Resort to provide over 1,000 ski lessons to more than 250 kids. Our program provides ski rental equipment, winter gear, dinner, and lessons — so cost is never the reason a kid misses out. We look forward to our sixth season in 2027.
Help us open the slopesWhy skiing
Skiing is so much more than a day out. Here's what our skiers take home with them.
Great for cardiovascular health, balance, and coordination — it builds core and leg muscles and strengthens joints.
Mastering the skill of skiing delivers the real experience of pride and accomplishment.
Take in the beauty of the hill — surrounded by trees, clean air, and white snow glistening in the lights.
Chairlift rides let kids meet new people and learn something new about whoever they're riding with.
The endorphins from a day of skiing deliver a genuine, mood-enhancing lift.
Away from screens, phones, and stress at home and school — a healthy break to just be a kid.
A rigorous day on the slopes is the perfect recipe for a deep, restful night.
Seven reasons, one truth: a day on the slopes changes how a kid sees what they're capable of.

In their words
When you set out to start this program, I'm not sure you understood the impact it would have on these kids. This is a life experience that may lead to job opportunities, confidence, lifelong physical fitness… There will come a point in their lives where they will fully realize the gift you've given them — and imagine all of the lives you enhanced when they pay it forward.
My ski experience has been amazing. These last two years have been filled with great learning experiences that I can't wait to use later in life. Thanks for all you did!!
My favorite parts are the mentors, the slopes, the cookies, and the dinner. I loved how much everyone cared for us.
Seeing that this was my second year, I can proudly say I am a skier. When I get older, I definitely want to continue to ski.
This is my first time skiing, and I had an outstanding time.
